Ford F250: 0, Angus Cow: 0, Richard & Chris: 1

What happens when your life flashes before your eyes? Some say they see a bright light. Others see the faces of their loved ones. For Richard and Chris that flash looked like a big, black Angus cow.

Chris and Richard headed out hog hunting last Saturday outside of Bristow at about 6 a.m. At about that time, a local farmer's cows had gotten out of their fence, and one of them decided to hang out in the middle of the highway. You can guess what happened next. As Richard and Chris rounded the top of a hill Chris had just enough time to shout "COW!" before it was too late. They smacked the cow going 65+ miles an hour.

Brakes slammed. Airbags deployed. And down into an embankment they went. Chris was buckled up and didn't even hit the airbag. Richard wasn't, and his head hit the roof. But, to make a long story short, both were fine. Chris didn't even have a bruise or a scratch on him, and Richard was only a little sore.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the cow nor the truck. Thankfully Richard had his truck raised 6" recently, so the cow went under the truck instead of over it. The truck is probably totaled, and the cow, well, the cow probably didn't know what hit him.

This freak accident was one of those instances that makes us all realize how quickly life can change, though fortunately after this incident not much changed at all, though we now keep a sharper eye out for fellow drivers, pedestrians and cows.

Wow, you guys are lucky. This past summer my dingy sister (yes, she's dingy b/c she didn't learn a dang thing from her accident, her life lesson God was trying to smack her on the head with, if you will), my sister was driving too fast and crazy and she was coming up on a driver too fast and couldn't break in time. So she swerved and hit the curb and spun into the opposite side of traffic and was hit on the passenger side by a dooley (did I spell that right? she drove a geo prism) She doesn't remember it and the paramedics had to come cut her out of the car. She broke her collarbone, her jaw, her nose and the bones around her eyes and cheek. She had glass coming out of her entire body for weeks and a giant gash above her eye and on her arm where the roof had caved and curled in and she cut herself. She was in surgery for 4 hours and now has titanium plates in her head. One of her eyes is still a little bigger than the other b/c they had to go in through the eye socket to re-set the bones. The only spot left in the car is where she was-if anyone else had been in there they would be dead. It's crazy the things that happen to us-and you wonder why. Unfortunately my sister just doesn't care, and she just got suspended and it's the end of her senior year. I'm sure you can imagine what she's like. But this is a long post and all I really wanted to agree with you on was how accidents like these, that come out of nowhere, really do make you realize how quickly life can change.

very very lucky. It may have been not your time to go. I read somewhere that when we die, actually our body produce this narcotic like hormones that we really don't feel that much. I don't know if this is true though.

I've had many close calls with death myself, and they all, of course, involved a vehicle. After I narrowly escaped said incidents, I realized there must be a reason I was spared, so I better make it right in life.
My husband is an avid hunter, and I must say your game camera gift was perfect, it seems! If we lived out in the country I would definitely get one of those for him! I'm glad both guys were spared any serious injuries in the cow incident.
